About Us

Green Dragon Racing Team is part of the Let’s Do It Global not for profit organization which was set up following Galway’s successful bid to host the Volvo Ocean Race from 23 May to 06 June 2009. Its purpose is to co-ordinate the Volvo Ocean Race host port, an entry in the race and to build a long-term legacy from the project.

Let’s Do It Global has a clear mission statement to be a world class, dynamic, self-renewing, creative, forward looking and dynamic organization built around hosting the stopover and organizing a world class entry in the race.
There are three subsidiary companies of Let’s do it Global:
1) Let’s Do It Galway (responsible for the Galway Stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race), http://www.letsdoitgalway.com
2) Let’s Do It Green (responsible for the Green Dragon Racing Team) http://www.greendragonracing.com
3) Shamrock Challenger Ltd. Boat ownership company; Shares in it are held by a private syndicate of Let’s Do It Global supporters. Shamrock Challenger will charter the boat to the Green Dragon team for the duration of the race.

Let’s do It Global will deliver a legacy to the project through two key areas:
1.  A schools programme which will introduce young people to maritime activities, careers at sea, marine commerce and trade, the Naval Service, the Merchant Marine and the sport of sailing. Through a structured learning programme, they will experience the areas of learning associated with sailing including teamwork, planning, adventure, climate, technology, geography, history and the marine environment. http://www.letsdoitschools.com

2.  An outreach programme which will link the Irish diaspora in all stopover ports around the world with the Galway Volvo Ocean Race stopover and will deliver an Irish following for the Green Dragon entry. This outreach programme will also assist in promoting Ireland globally.

The non executive directors and staff of let’s Do It Global share a common goal in promoting the sea, sailing, our maritime culture and it’s role in the future of Galway and Ireland. It is our mission to ensure that Galway and Ireland reap the long term sporting, tourism and social benefits from our participation in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09.

THANK YOU

Over 37,000 miles completed, 10 legs, 11 stopover ports and so many memories along the way.  It has been a tough campaign and an emotional rollercoaster at times but there is nothing else I would rather have been doing.
