WELCOME HOME THE DRAGON AT THE VOLVO DUN LAOGHAIRE REGATTA8th July, 2009

Sunday 12 July 2009 Dun Laoghaire’s west pier will be on standby to welcome home Ireland’s entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, Green Dragon which completed 37,000 nm around the world over the last 9 months. Green Dragon one of four boats in the race to complete all legs in the ‘Everest of sailing’ visited ports including Alicante, Capetown, Kochi, Singapore, Qingdao, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway, Maarstrand, Stockholm and finishing in St Petersburg at the end of June.

SINGAPORE STUDENTS VISIT GREEN DRAGON3rd June, 2009

Four students from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore travelled to Ireland for the Volvo Ocean Race as part of the ‘Crossing Waters, Crossing Culture’ initiative by Ocean Youth Trust Ireland together with Let’s Do it Global, Singapore’s Irish Business Association, by the Embassy of Ireland in Singapore.  The four students studying film and media attended the Inmarsat Student Film Lecture in Galway hosted by John Warehand from Inmarsat (pictured right) and were lucky enough to meet Green Dragon skipper Ian Walker

SPANISH ARMADA HITS GALWAY AGAIN30th May, 2009

Telefonica who had led from the start, relished in the light winds and extended away from the fleet to win in emphatic form, continuing their winning streak during the In Port racing. Telefonica Black gave their sistership a much needed cushion from third placed Puma. Outside the podium in fourth place was race leader Ericsson 4, followed by Ericsson 3, Delta Lloyd and home town favourites Green Dragon unfortunately coming in last place.

It has been a busy week for the Green Dragon crew as they meet all the supporters who have been following them around the world. Despite some bad weather during the week, the race village in Galway has remained busy and over 200,000 people are expected to descent on Galway this bank holiday weekend.  For the Green Dragon team it will be a special day sailing on their home waters for the In Port race tomorrow
