AN EXHAUSTING LEG9th June, 2009
You can tell when people are really tired as they don’t bother to try and get in a sleeping bag, they just collapse in their wet kit wherever they can. This has been life onboard the Green Dragon for the last 2 days. Non stop manoeuvring and double stand-by watches means a maximum of 2 hours sleep in 8 if you are lucky.
LEADING THE FLEET8th June, 2009
I am only 60 miles from my house in Warsash right now which is making me homesick! 9 months away from home so far so I guess I can last another 3 weeks until the end of the race. It has been a very good 24 hours for the Dragon as we are leading the fleet down the Channel.
FINAL IRISH FAREWELL7th June, 2009
Can you believe that there were a few spectator boats out at midnight at the Fastnet Rock in over 25 knots of wind? - a final Irish farwell. Even though the Fastnet Rock wasn’t a scoring gate it was a great thrill for the Green Dragon team to round the famous landmark and leave Ireland’s shores in first place.

When I saw the welcome we received on arriving in Galway I was speechless but when we left 2 weeks later it was with tears in my eyes. I knew Galway was a great city and a city that loves to party but never in my wildest dreams did I think Galway and Ireand would take so much to the Volvo Ocean Race. I can only say thank you from all of us for such a wonderful 2 weeks

This weekend has once again put Galway in the map, thousands of people come out to support the fleet racing, the coastline of Galway was packed full of people and the waters full of spectator boats. It shows that every person in Galway, on the west coast and in fact the whole of Ireland have embraced this event.
